Redemption by Jack Jordan

Aaron Alexander has just been released from jail after serving eleven years for causing the death of Joshua Moore in a hit-and-run. Now a free man, all he wants to do is stay on the straight and narrow and leave his troubled past behind him.

But for Joshua’s mother Evelyn, eleven years in jail isn’t nearly enough. Consumed by grief and rage, she has been waiting for Aaron’s release, counting down the days until she can exact the revenge he deserves. And now that time has come.

But as Evelyn and her husband Tobias embark on a road trip to track Aaron down, they find themselves caught on two different sides of a gripping game of cat-and-mouse. Because Tobias knows what Evelyn is planning, and he will do anything to save her from herself.

Even if it means protecting the man who killed their son.

Locked in a collision course set in motion eleven years ago, Aaron, Evelyn and Tobias are about to find out whether the road they have chosen leads to redemption . . . or to retribution.

My thoughts:

Thank you to The Likely Suspects at Simon and Schuster for a finished copy of the new book from Jack Jordan, Redemption. It is only a few weeks since I read and enjoyed Conviction, Jack’s last book and my first book by Jack.

This book quickly pulled me into the story, and I’m pleased that I started it when I had the opportunity to be curled up with it for a few hours, because I really didn’t want to walk away from this gripping story.

As a mother I could understand the pain that Evelyn must have felt to lose her only child in this way. But would I have plotted in the way she did over 11 years to kill the man who killed their son? I don’t think anyone really knows how circumstances like this could tip someone over the edge.

I enjoyed how the viewpoint of the story moved between the three main characters – Evelyn, Tobias and Aaron. All three are bound together by the events leading up to death of Joshua, who was killed when on a school trip. But will anyone survive?

This is a non spoiler review so I’m not going to say any more about the story – you need to read the book. Instead I’m going to praise the author for writing this emotional, heartbreaking and addictive thriller. This would also make an excellent TV series or film. One of my favourite books of the year.
