Elle’s A to Z of Love by Claire Huston

Thank you to Rachel of Rachel’s Random Resources for the invitation to join this blog tour. I read and enjoyed Claire’s debut novel last year (see review at https://mentoringmumof2bookreviews.home.blog/2020/09/17/art-and-soul-by-claire-huston/) and was keen to read her second book.

Haileybrook, a beautiful village in the peaceful Cotswolds countryside, is most people’s idea of heaven on earth.

Born and raised in this small slice of paradise, Elle Bea can’t wait to leave.

It should be easy, but every time she packs her bags for exotic adventures, old loves and loyalties pull her back.

Will Elle be forced to forget her dreams of far-flung places and epic romance, or can she grab one last chance to have it all?

An uplifting, romantic story about friends, family and the relationships that make a place a home.

My thoughts:

Elle is a kind and caring person, who appears to be at the beck and call of the people of Haileybrook, always there to help out despite the way some of her friend’s and family treat her.

We meet many interesting characters in Haileybrook, some who recognise Elle’s worth and others who are determined to keep secrets from her. I love how books and writing feature heavily in the story too.

Claire has written another lovely book, with Elle at the centre of it. A few times I wanted to tell Elle to stop being a ‘doormat’ and to stick up for herself. However Elle needs to learn how to trust to the right people and to listen more carefully to what is happening around her, rather than jumping to speedy conclusions. Her mother was one of the least maternal mothers I’ve ever met in a book.

Some sad moments, but also many funny moments due to interfering older people, drunk friends and misunderstandings. Happy to recommend for a summer read. I loved the ending and I hope you will read a copy to see why.
