Anything Could Happen by Lucy Diamond

Thank you to Quercus Books for a digital review copy via NetGalley of the latest book by one of my favourite authors, Lucy Diamond. I’m sharing a mini non spoiler review today.

Synopsis:

Your big secret is out. What next?

For Lara and her daughter Eliza, it has always been just the two of them. But when Eliza turns eighteen and wants to connect with her father, Lara is forced to admit a secret that she has been keeping from her daughter her whole life.

Eliza needs answers – and so does Lara. Their journey to the truth will take them on a road trip across England and eventually to New York, where it all began. Dreams might have been broken and opportunities missed, but there are still surprises in store…

Anything Could Happen is a warm, wise, funny and uplifting novel about love, second chances and the unexpected and extraordinary paths life can take us down.

My thoughts:

I’m pleased to confirm that this is another excellent book by Lucy Diamond, one of my favourite authors to add to my kindle every year for my summer holiday in pre-Covid days.

Lara has been keeping a number of secrets and Eliza is about to open ‘a can of worms’ as she hunts for her dad. Her ‘dad’ sends her back to her mum, leading to an argument, a road trip, a visit to the hospital and a journey to New York.

Lara and Eliza’s relationship experiences highs and lows during a year of discovery. Lara needs to make peace with the past and Eliza starts to find out more about herself. There is an element of ‘Sliding Doors’ to this story – a number of times that life could have changed after Lara’s first trip to New York.

This is a book that made me laugh and cry, full of excellent characters who became ‘part of my family’ for a couple of days. Happy to recommend to readers of my book review blog looking for an uplifting read.
